A topic dear to my heart, my top picks for best SPF creams for face and body.
Did I mention before that I use creams with SPF all year? I think I did. I know I did. But I am going to repeat – SPF is an extremely important step in your skincare routine. It gets even more important if you have sensitive skin, skin that is prone to scarring (from acne of breakouts), or skin that is, like mine, prone to hyper-pigmentation.
Choose your SPF carefully, make sure that the cream has protection from both UVB and UVA rays, the latter are the ones that are responsible for the long term damage, and chose an adequately high SPF.
Estee Lauder Daywear Advanced Multi Protection Anti Oxidant UV Defense SPF 50 – Quite a mouthful but totally brilliant. I struggled to find a cream that is hydrating, yet not too heavy and this one fits the bill perfectly.
I recommend it for combination to oily skins on its own as a moisturizer (I use it over a serum) and for dry skins as the last step in your skincare routine, over your moisturizer. In addition to the UVA and UVB protection ingredients it has some really good antioxidants, for example Estee Lauder’s signature Super Anti-Oxidant Complex.
The one downside of this product is that it contains Mica, so when you put it on it does leave a very slight sheen. Even though I have oily skin I don’t find this to be a problem, it gives my skin luminosity rather than an oily look and feel, but thought I should mention it.
Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream SPF 30 – This is more your summer vacation/free-time face suncream. I haven’t found it to work well under make up for me but that could be because its a creamier and my skin is a bit too oily, but if you have dry skin then this might just be your choice.
Its SPF 30, smells like a dream, no chemically smell, blends in well and doesn’t leave your skin greasy. It is also formulated to have skincare and SPF properties, so you won’t have to reach for two different moisturizers on your vacation and is the perfect beach companion.
Piz Buin 1 Day Long-Lasting Sun Lotion SPF 30 – Don’t you just love things that smell great? Well I chose this one as my top recommendation because it smells great!
Obviously yes, it has both UVA and UVB protection, is super moisturizing, has a great texture that is super easy to blend into your skin, and it leaves no chalky, greasy feel. But it also smells divine. I hate those coconutty smelling ones, such a cliché, but that could just be me.
The added perk of this particular one is that it is a “one application a day” formula as it lasts for 6 hours. I don’t spend 6 hours in the sun obviously and I don’t think that the one application a day is really enough, but it is great for an active holiday, if you are out and about and want to be protected. It comes in different SPFs but I rarely go for anything lower than a 30.
It’s not that I don’t like to do monthly favorites, I do, but I wanted to try something that would be more relevant to you.
Rather than doing lengthy reviews and monthly favorites that usually mention almost the same products, I thought I would do an “Iva Recommends” series each month in which I would recommend three or four products that I am loving at the moment.
A bit of a hybrid between favorites and in depth reviews. Let me know what you think if these!
