I recently went to the MAC store in Den Haag and stocked up on some of my MAC favorites and it inspired me to write about what I think are the 12 must have MAC products, and 3 you can live without. Don’t get me wrong, there are other things that I love from MAC, but this is my top pick of things for you if you are looking for versatile, easy to use products that you will get tons of use from every day.
1. MAC Face and Body Foundation
I am not a big fan of MAC foundations but this one just ticks all of the right boxes. A great foundation for everyday makeup wear, easy to apply (with your fingers), light and weightless, and longwearing. The only downside is that it can feel a bit tacky on the skin and that is why I always recommend setting it with powder.
2. Any MAC Lip liner
I am sure that I have mentioned this before, but all except one of my lip liners are MAC. I like the formulation (although it is not consistent over all colors) so it isn’t overly drying yet it stays in place. The color range is great and some of the “cult” colors to try are: Soar, Spice, Cherry and my three favorites Boldly Bare, Beet or Magenta.
3. MAC Rebel Lipstick
Pretty obvious one, but MAC Rebel is a must have shade. It is a lovely warm berry with a bit of magenta, so quite neutral overall and because of that it suits almost ever skin tone. It has a satiny, creamy finish so it is nice on the lips. Don’t be scared of it, try it on!
4. MAC Shy Girl Lipstick
There are a couple of MAC nudes that have cult status, but I like to go slightly off the beaten path and choose Shy Girl as my recommendation. It is a nude with a slight tinge of coral, your lips but with just a trace of color. Perfect on the go, not fussy, no need for liners, a super easy everyday shade.
5. MAC Patina Eyeshadow
Patina is a gorgeous light taupe with bronzy, old gold satin finish. With a bit of shimmer.
6. MAC Satin Taupe Eyeshadow
A slightly darker taupe with almost a plummy shimmer, my all time favorite MAC eye shadow.
Both Patina and Satin Taupe are perfect pairing with liners, each other, mascara, other shades, or just wear them on their own. What I love about these is that the colors have a lot of depth and dimension so they are suitable for the “one eyesahdow” look, great for those days when you just don’t have the time and need to get ready fast.
7. MAC Nylon Eyeshadow
This is a super highlight shade that is very intense so it may not be for everyone, but I do think that it has a lot of use for every day makeup application. I see it used extensively in intense and smoky eye looks as a highlight, but I love to dab it into my inner corner, or better yet, on “no makeup” days, I just pat it to the center of my lid for instant, awake looking eyes.
8. MAC 217 Brush
Everyone has a 217, and you should too. It is a great brush, just the right size for most eye shapes. It is primarily a blending brush, but it is also good for applying eyeshadows. Because of this versatility I recommend it as the brush you should start with if you are just building up your make up tools collection.
9. MAC 239 Brush
A flat shader brush that is fluffy and compact at the same time. It is great for applying and packing eyesadow on your whole lid, yet precise enough that you can use it to smudge the lower lash line. Well worth the investment.
10. MAC Pro Longwear Concealer
I think that I have mentioned this concealer plenty of times, it is my go to long-wearing friend. Although it is a long-wearing formula it doesn’t dry out and it creases less than other concealers I have tried.
11. MAC Eye Pencil in Coffee
A black and a brown eyeliner pencil is a must in any makeup bag, and this deep cool brown from MAC ticks all the right boxes. It is creamy but doesn’t smudge (although it is not a longwearing formula) and it super easy to blend and smoke out but doesn’t transfer or run once you are done.
12. MAC Pigment – Old Gold is my choice
If you are on the look out for something that takes your eye makeup to the next level then pigment is definitely it. I love the MAC pigments and there are man colors to choose from. They are super pigmented, which is quite obvious from the name, but they are still kind of creamy (unless you go for a chunky glitter one) that you can blend them easily.
